>From Northern California (San Francisco, San Jose), drive south on Highway 101 to Highway 156. The turn off will say - Monterey Peninsula. Stay on Hwy 156 until you reach Highway 1. Go South on Highway 1 until you reach Carmel. The drive from San Francisco takes about 2 1/2 hours and from San Jose about 1 1/2 hours.

>From Southern California, drive north on Highway 101 and turn at the Monterey Peninsula turn off in Salinas. Follow this Highway until you reach Highway 68 (which is at the corner of Main Street and Blanco Road). Turn left onto Highway 68 and proceed to Highway 1. Go south on Highway 1 until you reach Carmel. The drive from Los Angeles takes about six hours. If you are traveling all the way up on Highway 1, allow yourself more time.
